What are braces?

Do you want a perfect smile? You deserve the best smile possible – so why not give yourself the gift of braces?

The purpose of braces is to improve the appearance and function of your teeth by straightening or moving them. By spreading the biting pressure across your entire mouth, they can also make eating more comfortable, as well as maintaining your long-term dental health. Braces straighten crooked teeth, align misaligned teeth and improve jaw alignment.

Benefits of Braces

Dental braces have been around for centuries, and they continue to provide a variety of benefits.
Prevention of Gum Diseases & Tooth Decay: Braces create the perfect amount of space between teeth so that your toothbrush can clean out cavities all around. The braces also straighten your teeth, making it much more difficult for food to get stuck in-between them and cause gum diseases or decay.
Make Your Digestion Better: Jaw misalignment can be corrected with braces. When your teeth are correctly aligned, chewing is more comfortable and effective. This will make it easier for you to digest food better than before!
Prevent Bone Erosion: Misaligned teeth can be the cause of many different dental diseases. This is because, over time, these types of misalignments will force your mouth bacteria to wear away the bone in front and behind your tooth until it falls out! Braces help prevent bone erosion through their realignment property, which allows you to keep all that bone in one place by a slow and controlled process using force and constant pressure.
Fixing Disproportionate Teeth and Improving Voice: Misaligned jaws often negatively affect a person’s speech and can sometimes lead to an inability to speak. Braces are made for people who have misalignments in their jaw so that they can get the perfect alignment of teeth, lips, and mouth with no interfering from having deviated or missing teeth.
Improved Smile and Confidence Booster: Many people were born with crooked teeth and are always unhappy about it. Braces, while they may not be the most fun way to spend your time in high school or college, helps you regain a beautiful smile by maintaining and adjusting the position of teeth.

A person’s orthodontic treatment costs are based on the type of material and time frame needed to complete their therapy. Australia has a range of prices for braces, from $5,000-$8500 in 18 months with ceramic brackets or up to $8000 if you choose traditional metal braces — while lingual braces start at around 7500 per arch ($12 500 for your whole mouth). Clear aligners cost between 2000-9000 dollars depending on what style is chosen as well as individual circumstances. The price of an orthodontist can vary greatly depending on whether they use ceramic braces or metals wires like steel wire; how long the process will take.

The idea of straighter teeth is enticing, but orthodontic treatments can be expensive and have high premiums.

While some health insurance plans provide benefits for orthodontic treatment, the coverage often comes with long waiting periods before a claim is processed as well as limited benefit limits that could make those straightening efforts futile in many cases.

At Narre Warren Dental Care, we work with all major healthfunds and we are a preferred provider for NIB & HCF, so you don’t have to worry about the cost of orthodontic treatment. Our expert team will provide you with a free consultation where they can explain what types of braces are available for you based on your individual needs. Best of all, our consultations are always FREE!

There are four main types of braces:-

Metal Braces:-Metal braces comprise metal brackets and metal wires. Metal braces are also much less noticeable these days. They can now be small and even come with heat-activated teeth arch wires that use your body’s natural warmth for faster movement of teeth.

Ceramic Braces:- Ceramic braces are an excellent option for those who desire the fast results of metal without standing out so much on the teeth. Some even have tooth-coloured wire to allow for an extra discreet appearance. They can stain easily if not looked after correctly.

Lingual:- Lingual braces are metal brackets that go on the inside of your teeth, where you can’t see them. They’re more difficult to keep clean because food and saliva have no way to get in between each tooth as it does with regular braces. This may make eating uncomfortable at first, but as long as you brush twice a day and use dental floss before every meal, this should be fine!

Invisalign:- Invisalign braces or virtually invisible braces are incredibly convenient, and you can eat whatever your heart desires without worrying about getting the wires in between every single item. They’re also a bit more expensive than other options on offer- but if you don’t mind shelling out for them, then they’ll make it worth your while!

Brace-wearing individuals must not eat the following types of food

  • Hard foods like toffee, ice cubes, crunchy bread
  • Sticky substances like sticky candy
  • Chewy foods like chewy lollies, chewy candies
  • Sugary foods such as chocolate pudding.
  • Starchy Food
  • Spicy Food
  • For adults, braces take longer to get straight teeth
  • Adults prefer less noticeable orthodontic treatment options such as ceramic braces, lingual braces, or clear aligners to straighten their permanent teeth.
  • Because you can wear removable braces as an adult, you may have more treatment options.
Braces are not nearly as painful as you might think, and there’s no reason to be anxious. In most cases, people experience a bit of soreness or discomfort after the orthodontic wire is engaged into the brackets – but that only lasts for a few days at worst! The discomfort can usually be relieved with an over-the-counter pain reliever.

Braces treatment consists of the following:

  • An initial examination and consultation by your dentist
  • Diagnosing the case
  • Creating a treatment plan with your dentist
  • Placing brackets and inserting wires
  • Making adjustments to the dental braces
